As mentioned in my post Where to Save and Where to Splurge on a Wedding, there are several areas where you can forego spending a lot of money. Some would argue that one of those areas is the details. However, I would argue to the contrary. It is in the details that you get the best sense of who the couple is. Here are a few ways to personalize your wedding with a few simple details:
- Cake topper. One of the most common ways for couples to show off their personality is through the use of a personalized cake topper. We opted for peg dolls made in our image. But there are plenty of options out there from monograms to a miniature replica of one’s pet.
- “Bars”. In addition to the traditional wet bar, it has become more and more popular for couples to provide an additional bar. While we had a Mexican candy bar, others have a sweets bar or a specialized coffee bar. Each one adds a little flair to your reception and doesn’t have to cost a ton.
- Entertainment. We opted for the increasingly common photo booth. However, a friend of mine had someone hand-rolling cigars. Another had a caricaturist. It’s important to stay within your budget when considering these add-ons but they do make a great gift is someone is offering to help out.
- Bridal details. From charms dangling from my bouquet with pictures of my grandparents who are no longer here, to a heart sown into my dress from an old blue shirt of my dad’s…I thought I’d come up with it all. But the truth is, there are so many things you can incorporate into your wedding to make it extra individualized. Pinterest provides plenty of ideas!
It isn’t about the amount of details that you incorporate. Here, it truly is the thought that counts.
